Social Studies Educational Goals:
In the broadest sense, the goal of social studies education is:
1) Literacy in social studies’ many content areas

3) Critical thinking and problem solving / decision making skills.

Classroom Procedures:

Each forty-five minute period will consist of three fifteen minute blocks.
Block One: Essay and journal writing
Block Two: Reading and guided discussion
Block Three: Tests, quizes, group projects and presentations

Tests will be scheduled in advance. Quizes will be surprises. Homework will be assigned daily. Late homework is accepted once per quarter with one letter grade reduction. After that, late homework receives an automatic zero. Plagiarism results in an automatic zero. There is no extra homework.

Your Final Grade will consist of:

Block One: Essay and journal writing = 15% & Homework = 15%
Block Two: Reading = 10% & Discussion participation/classroom behavior = 10%
Block Three: Tests and quizes = 25% & Group projects and presentations = 25%

Total = 100% (Grades 9-12: Total reduced to 80% b/c 20% = Semester Exams)

100-90% = A
89-80% = B
79-70% = C
69-60% = D
Below 60% = F
